Dr. Bryan Watts Receives Mitchell A. Byrd Award

On May 19, Dr. Bryan Watts received the Mitchell A. Byrd Award for Scientific Achievement during the joint meeting of the Virginia Society of Ornithology and the Tennessee Ornithological Society held in Johnson City, TN. The award recognizes outstanding scientific achievement and contribution to the knowledge of Virginia’s birds. Dr. Watts has produced more than 230 publications, authored nearly 100 papers presented to scientific meetings, and been awarded more than 320 grants to support avian research. The award is named for legendary conservationist and co-founder of the Center for Conservation Biology, Dr. Mitchell A. Byrd.


What an achievement– well done! We are so fortunate to have people of this calibur involved with the NBG eagles. (And Mr. Lukei, of course also!)

Congratulations Dr. Watts — they couldn’t have picked a better person to receive this award. It must feel good to know that all your hard work has been recognized by your colleagues.

Congratulations on this well-deserved award, Dr. Watts. Also, I would like to thank you for your informative talk at the Friday evening session of the NBG Eagle Festival. It was encouraging to see the progress made through efforts of people like you and your colleagues and to know that supporting your work can make a difference in this world.
